Auslan Community Corpus (concept only)
A concept for a community-governed Auslan dataset. No data has been collected. Any collection would require community consent and governance; it does not exist yet.
Purpose
To document, honestly, what a responsible Auslan dataset would require before any data is gathered.
Source
None collected. This entry documents intent and constraints only.
Composition
Not applicable — no data exists. A responsible corpus would need to capture hands, body, facial expression, timing and context, not isolated gestures.
Consent model
Informed, revocable consent would be required from every contributor. Not yet designed.
Community governance
The Deaf community would hold governance rights over collection, use and takedown. This is a prerequisite, not an afterthought.
Sensitive attributes
Video of identifiable people is inherently sensitive; this is central to why the dataset does not yet exist.
Ethical review
Any future collection would require ethical review and community governance before starting.
Takedown process
A community-controlled takedown process would be a precondition of any collection.
Known biases
- Not applicable — no data collected.
Limitations
- This is a concept, not a dataset. No download exists and none is implied.
- Auslan cannot be reduced to isolated gestures; a corpus must reflect the full language.
Access conditions
No access — the dataset does not exist. This website does not accept sign-language video or personal data.
